Bethan Mcilroy
Bethan Mcilroy, is spearheading an ambitious project titled “Roots to Growth: Cultivating Urban Agriculture in Nottinghamshire for Sustainable Community Development.” With a rich background in sustainable agriculture and community development, Bethan has dedicated over 15 years to transforming urban spaces into vibrant, green communities through innovative gardening and farming practices. This initiative is a natural progression of Bethan’s commitment to addressing the pressing challenges of food insecurity, environmental degradation, and the loss of community spaces due to rapid urbanisation.
“Roots to Growth” aims to revolutionise Nottinghamshire’s approach to urban agriculture by incorporating successful models observed in cities across the United States. Bethan plans to embark on an extensive research trip, visiting pioneering urban agriculture organisations to gather insights on operational models, sustainability practices, and community engagement strategies. This project not only seeks to enhance local food sovereignty and promote economic development but also strives to foster a sense of community and environmental stewardship among Nottinghamshire residents. Upon return, Bethan is committed to implementing these findings through practical initiatives, workshops, and collaborations, paving the way for a greener, more resilient Nottinghamshire.
